Why do cops fear cameras? Carlos Miller, a journalist who was arrested by Miami police for taking photographs of them against their wishes, and who is now appealing his conviction for resisting arrest without violence, has some thoughts: the cameras often lead to evidence of police misconduct, which results in charges against officers. He links to an article in the New York Times that describes several such incidents.
Stop by The Legal Satyricon, too, while you’re out following links—that’s where I found this post.*
* And by the way, I’ve been meaning to mention this for a long time: I don’t do that idiotic “hat tip” or “H/T” thing. People don’t actually tip their hats anymore. Talking about a “hat tip” to say where you found something in the blogosphere is like  telling people to go “spin” an MP3, or maybe suggesting that the internet is a series of tubes.
Well aren’t you just too fancy to use anachronisms.
I think hat tipping is the bee’s knees. Anywhoodle, I’m off to go videotape something with my digital camera.
And I’m certainly not in this club.
I’m a big fan of the “hat tip,” regardless of what you call it. It’s just proper blogger etiquette to let readers know where you found something.
But, if you hate the term, I guess I’m open to a new one. “Props?” “Mad Respect?” “Boogie Boogie?”
Ha ha ha ha!
Dude, don’t lie.
Why not just “I found this at Blog X”?
Anyway, I certainly wouldn’t expect anyone to change what they do based on my opinion. Ha! If that were the case, vast swaths of the internet would probably have to go dark. And my little corner would probably have to go dark if some other people were in charge. So long live free speech. Woohoo!
Ha! The SCA. Who knew that if something didn’t even exist, it could be re-enacted? Now it’s proven. The ultimate revisionist history.
I’ve seriously thought about investing in a small video camera to carry in my car. I don’t trust police except for the few that I know personally. It’s a good question Carlos Miller poses about the BART shooting – what would have happened if there were no private citizen’s video?
